KANTEERAVA KARIBASAVAIAH CENTENARY

The pillar of yesteryears TS Karibasavaiah the owner of Kanteerava Studios is not living with us. It is time for centenary celebration of the doyen of studios. Born on 7th of February 1914 Sri TS Karibasavaiah died in the year 1992 on 12th of March – for this February 7th it is 100 years of Karibasavaiah.
 
The remarkable work of legend is Kanteerava studio fond place of Kannada cinema industry. Known as Tipatur TS Karibasavaiah continuing the iron business maintained a soft heart towards the society. In the school days he was fond of novels, patriotism, art and culture.  He joined the camp of Gubbi Veeranna theatre group and quickly became a fond personality in theatre management.
 
As Karibasavaiah grew up he studied the problems faced by Kannada cinema industry for shooting. He traveled to various places for a land. He convinced 100 plus agriculturists to secure 17.5 acres of land on Tumkur and Bangalore high way. That is the place where Kanteerava studio is situated.
 
The support of the then chief minister S Nijalingappa and the then finance minister KV Shankare Gowda the Kanteerava studio was set up on 18th of March 1966. Karibasavaiah Kanteerava Studios Private limited was possible because of the support of Sharvanna and children, Mandya’s KV Shankare Gowda, Dharmasthala Rathnavarma Hegde, Dr Veerendra Heggade, Patil Puttappa, Puttanna kanagal, Tipatur GK Mallappa, DM Chandrasekhar, H M Shanthanna, Pallagatti Adavappa, B Nanjappa and others.
 
Before setting up of this studio Karibasavaiah produced films like Anna Thangi in1958 and Raani Honnamma in 1960. Both starring Dr Rajakumar and B Saroja Devi and Leelavathi were heroines to `Annavru`.
 
The actual shooting at the floors of Kanteerava studio was started in 1970 and it was ‘Takka Bitre Sikka’ the first film to shoot at this place. Kaveri and Kalyani two floors were inaugurated in 1972 by the then finance minister SM Krishna.
 
Karibasavaiah always stood for the ailing artists. He started ‘Vinod’ theatre that was inaugurated by Gubbi Veeranna.
 
It is time for celebration of the centenary of the great contributor Kanteerava Karibasavaiah. All walks of the cinema industry should join in celebration.
